The upstream kernel you suggested exhibits the same problem. I have
tried several of the Ubuntu kernels available to me:
* 3.0.0-17-generic
* 3.0.0-16-generic
* 2.6.38-12-generic
The problem occurs with all of them, although as I said has only
recently started occurring at all, so it doesn't seem likely that it's a
kernel bug per se.
