In addition to HPLIP which Al mentioned, there is also hpijs. Those two with
CUPS make using most HPs child's play.
I have also had success with Samsungs. I myself have an ML1510 and I have
installed more recent models for other people. Samsung supplies Linux
drivers, but I have found the ones that come with CUPS more satisfactory.
