I thought only Ubuntu 8.04 was LTS? Kubuntu, due to the KDE4
instability, was not? Maybe I was mistaken, or maybe it depends on if
I am using KDE3 or KDE4 since both were available in that release. In
any case, after 3 years I will still have to move either to KDE4 or
Gnome, can't stay on KDE3 forever. Which way to go...

I would like to upgrade more frequently anyway. For example, the UFRaw
plugin for Gimp does not (yet) support my new camera, and prob never
will in 8.04. I know it will support it because the underlying
command-line tool already supports it so it is just a matter of time.
Not checked in 8.10 yet but it may already support it.

Well I have partly solved my slideshow display problem. I had to
install the compiz config manager to get the option to disable the
"legacy fullscreen fix". Not sure if that means some other apps fail
to work. Seems odd that the default install is not in a config that
works but maybe that is because no config works for all apps. Ho, hum.
The true "slideshow" still does not work correctly but I can now
switch to fullscreen mode and cycle through the pictures manually.

It will take me a long time to tag >4000 photos, maybe it is time to
offload some to CD/DVD and not keep them all on my HDD. I just worry
how safe that will be.

Thanks
