What happened

  • MichaelEvans has X working, thanks to ThomasAdam

  • JaredBelkus laptop fought valiantly not to have its floppy bay disconnected… combatants NeilFerguson, HugoMills, and TonyWhitmore discover a paperclip trapped in it.

  • LisiReisz and HugoMills discovered, in the process of recovering a whole load of Lisi’s data, that Lisi’s computer only works properly when Hugo is standing near it.

  • TonyWhitmore got the infra-red port on his R40 working (apparently you need ISA support too) and dialed up to the internet using NeilFerguson‘s phone.

  • IanBrazier borrowed two books from Graham

  • Xendistar (TimHenley) has a working PC thanks to HugoMills, ThomasAdam and RichardGellem. HugoMills sorted my boot problem and Richard and Thomas sorted my sound and mouse problem (the mouse was dead!!)

  • BobDunlop and RichardGellman restored X11 operation to KevinBurns system by hacking the RH startup scripts

  • ChrisDennis turned up to his first HantsLUG meeting. Good to meet people and put faces to names, having loitered on the mailing list for a while.

  • NeilFerguson installed Ubuntu on a Dell Optiplex, and nearly got Xen working as well.

  • GrahamBleach discovered that his aged laptop and PCMCIA NIC both worked fine, but the PCMCIA interface cable was broken. He also forgot to make his donation, so will next time. Tried in vain to root a Sparcstation for Kevin, but managed to get sound working for MichaelEvans.

  • RichardGellman got the PCMCIA NIC card on AndyRansom‘s laptop working by tweaking the BIOS.

  • AndyRansom recovered data from AndreaFuller‘s laptop hardrive.

  • Lots of people admired the fancy case on LisiReisz new computer.

  • TonyWhitmore remembered to bring his printer and after herculean efforts with CUPS we had on-site badge printing. Next time he just has to remember to bring scissors and more paper too…..

  • TomBragg installed Debian sarge on a laptop for the other half to use and with much help from TonyWhitmore finally fixed the flickering screen on his laptop

  • JohnLewis didn’t do a lot that he can remember apart from trying to sign billp’s ‘key’ and downloading the IPCop-1.4.0.iso at near light speed

  • AndreaFuller donated her dead Think Pad 600E to JohnLewis for spares. JohnLewis promply found a home for the DVD drive, but probably can’t remember who he gave it to.

  • SamuelPenn showed off his C860, chatted a bit, installed FlightGear, tried to get Apache set up correctly (still not completed).
