I live and work in Basingstoke.

I have been using UNIX for about 16 years and have used Linux for about the past 6.

I currently have my own software company, Polyzing Ltd. http://www.polyzing.com, and most of my work has been creating custom LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) solutions, (although I prefer to use PostgreSQL to MySQL). Having said that, C++ is still my language of choice, having spent the past 8 years using it (and a further 6 years before that using C).

I should be able to help people out in C/C++, SQL, PHP, Bash, Perl and a few more things I am a little rusty in.

Over the years I have worked on some interesting technologies, which I still keep an interest in, even if just casual now, such a Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Virtual Reality and Network Monitoring.

A little bit more about me…

My first computer was a Sinclair Spectrum. I began learning BASIC, and moved on to assembly programming, because I was going to write the next big game. Of course, that ended up on my ‘to-do’ list, but always seemed to be less important than other things.

My second computer was a Commodore Amiga, which I upgraded with a 20MB hard-drive – wow! That was a revolution for me. Actually not having to fiddle around with tapes or floppy disks to load programs. Of course, a 20MB hard drive isn’t cheap, about 300 pound if I remember. It is nice how some things have changed.

I went to Southampton University back in 88-91, studying Physics with a bit of Computer Science, of course that was before the new Computer buildings were built. I spent a lot of time in the ‘Sun Lounge’, learning how to do cool stuff in Unix, like making other peoples displays go funny. lol

In 95 I moved to California with a networking company and rode the wave of dot.com start ups. Wow man, what a rush. Funnily enough, I didn’t make my fortune, so came back in 2001 once all the ‘gold’ had dried up.
