If you will shrink Linux partition and make space for Windows (use
GParted, shrink current partition and prepare new NTFS partition) and
then install Win it should go through. Only thing is that you have to
reinstall GRUB after whole process, but it is nothing complicated

Haven't done it recently, but never had problem with that. Use
LiveCD/USB if needed (for resizing and reinstalling GRUB2) and read
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot#Installing_Windows_After_Ubuntu
where you can find a lot of information about this topic.

And definitely go for SSD if you can afford it - even 128GB will be
enough for system drive for Win and Linux and will speed up your system
(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Solid_State_Drives - good Arch wiki)
