I don't have access as I'm now at home, but the server definitely has
usb capabilities. Does it make much of a difference whether the
functionality is compiled in or in modules?

It worked it another machine so there's definitely something up with the
server rather than the disk.


I'll have another look tomorrow, before I leave the office for another
trip away...
