I use the command line CD writing package wodim under debian as
root like this:

benden:~# wodim -v dev=/dev/cdrom speed=4 ./dyne-2.4.2.iso

I don't have a DVD writer so cannot test DVD writing but one of the
many lines output following that command is

"Starting to write CD/DVD at speed 4.0 in real TAO mode for single
session."

so I assume wodim will write DVDs
