I have now solved my problem of converting flac files into a format
that a SansaClip can work with.
In spite of the warnings on the audacity man page, I found the batch-
processing system, chains, easy to use. Just one is provided, to
convert to mp3. I had no problem altering it to convert to ogg. It
works well, even preserving tags.

Mine certainly doesn't look waterproof, not at all.
Did you ever find out how to have items from internal and external
memory on the same playlist?
