My home router seems to do this for me:-
alan@deep-thought:~$ ping wopr.local
PING wopr.local (192.168.1.123) 56(84) bytes of data.
alan@deep-thought:~$ ping hactar.local
PING hactar.local (192.168.1.105) 56(84) bytes of data.
Not sure what I did to make it happen. Clearly DD-WRT is awesome :)
