For reasons I won't go into I needed to re-boot my main system so tried
out the openSuSE live cd and played briefly with gnome-3.

Briefly - because to be honest I really, really, really disliked the new
interface. It uses icons for starters which I've always disliked so
they would have to go.

But mainly because it is too big a change from what I'm used to, it
isn't an upgrade, it is a complete change.

I think it is possible to use the original interface but keep the rest
of the gnome-3 stuff but I didn't have the will to play around enough
to find out.

I'll wait til lots of people have used it, found out how to make it
work more like gnome-2 and then try it again.

The much vaunted message popup or whatever has no appeal at all since I
don't do messaging.
