If you want to use aptitude, you will need to play by aptitude's rules,
and that will preclude what you outline above. If, however, you build from
source, you can usually define where the application should be installed -
although even then it would be in terms of a directory rather than a
device.

In a word: Puppet. It may be waaaaay overkill for what you are trying to
do, but if you want to have machines configured in predetermined ways
irrespective of architecture, etc, Puppet will certainly fit the bill.

Not trivial, though. Expect to spend quite a bit of time tuning it to get
exactly what you want (but once you've done that, it is very good).
