Hi Sean,

I agree with a lot of your points. My Blackberry is a personal device (not a company one) so I am in control of what goes on it and nobody can monitor it except for me.

My friend has a company device from a well-known broadcaster. it is governed by a "policy" which means his employer can control what he can install on it and monitor his usage in real time. They can see every web page he's visited and all the texts, emails he's sent and which he's read.

I believe devices like this are a double edged sword. On one hand they can be a tool for corporate control. I find mine very liberating. I don't have to go and check my emails any more. I can go and do what I want in the knowledge that anything important will come to me. I feel less of a slave to my computer.

And the Blackberry signature. That is added at Vodafone. I could go to their email management portal and change it but so far I haven't been bothered to. In a way I find it useful for people to know I may not be sitting in front of a fully featured computer.

Cheers,
Paul.
