Forwarding email from things like root accounts is pretty much the
standard way of handling this in my experience.

You don't say which distro you are using and exactly how to do this will
depend on the distro (or more exactly the MTA - mail transfer agent - you
are using, but I'm guessing you will be using the distros default MTA).

If it's Debian you most likely have Exim, for Red Hat/Fedora based
distros it will probably be sendmail and for Ubuntu I think it's Postfix.

Let us know which distro/MTA and we can point you in the right direction.
