Various versions of Iceweasel (Debian's version of Firefox) work perfectly
well on my various systems.

Some obvious quick questions:
    *    What distro are you using (server and client)?
    *    How does you systems resolve the name houseweb (DNS or hosts file?)
    *    What does host houseweb show on your system?
