I've not touched the set up yet (I don't have my new disk). I've also
ordered a 500GB external drive, and I'll use this to back anything that
I can't afford to lose (which is quite a lot!) before adding the new disk.

Once everything's safely backed up, I think I'll just plug in the new
disk and see what happens. Like you say, the motherboard seems to have
this LSI logic SAS controller, so hopefully it'll just accept the new
disk with no problems [touches wood].

Does anyone know of a program that will give you information on the
hardware in your PC? I've had a go with cup-z, but the output it gives
for the motherboard doesn't throw up any results on Google. I had to
resort to opening the case and finding the serial number that way.
msinfo32 wasn't amazingly useful (quelle surprise!), but I can't think
of any others.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
