[Hampshire] Low Mic Input Level

Hi,

Does anyone know how I can adjust the input level for my microphone
(internal mic on an Acer Asire 5633 running Kubuntu 6.10)? The sliders in
KMixer are all set to maximum but it barely records anything audible unless
I blow on the mic or speak loudly right next to it.
It "works" using Audacity and Skype so I don't think it's a problem with a
particular program).
Any ideas?
