Maybe not initially, but I would be very surprised if it couldn't be
made to work:-

Indeed, the official documentation suggests this way:-

Sounds like it is trying to drive the screen at a refresh rate its not
happy about.

What did you try?

Did you reduce the screen refresh rate?

We had exactly this problem on Lisis machine under Kubuntu at the last
meeting. It was fixed very quickly and easily by changing VertRefresh
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to a more sane higher-end value. We then restarted
X and all was tickety-boo.

Indeed, it has some flaws. Which is why it's great that there is a
superb support network to help people out when they have problems such
as this.

I had a problem today with Evolution and syncing to my PDA under Ubuntu.
Rather than wipe my machine and install Debian potato however, I raised
a bug in the hope that it might be fixed sometime soon:-

That's a real shame. I refuse to believe that on a technical issue such
as this, Ubuntu can't be made to work where Debian does.

It's of course impossible to please everyone with the package selection.
Some people will want Gaim, others AMSN, some will want OpenOffice,
others Koffice, and so the list goes on.

This isn't the first time you have tried on your own to fix something,
then given up and taken seemingly great delight to tell us that Ubuntu
isn't up to scratch and cannot possibly measure up to the holy grail of
Operating systems that is Debian.

If you had mailed the list, asked on irc, posted a support ticket or in
any way asked for help you probably would have got some useful
information.

If you would like to bring the box along to the next meeting I would
gladly help you get Ubuntu working the way you want with the package
selection of your choice.

Cheers,
Al.
