[Hampshire] Canon Lide 80 scanner on Ubuntu

What is it with Canon? First my printer (Canon i865), and now the scanner!
Neither are supported on Linux by Canon. The printer sort of works using a
different driver, but with glitches. And the scanner won't work at all. I've
been googling for hours to try to find drivers, but to no avail. Sane
doesn't have any support and none is planned. I have had to resort to using
<shudder> Dozey </shudder>.

If any of you have either of these devices, and you have them working under
Linux, please give me a shout.
