I tend to remind people that the key word is _artificial_. There's no
real intelligence involved, just pattern matching against lots of data,
trying to find a best match.  That best match could be totally wrong and
the machine wouldn't know, it'll just offer it anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I've had some pretty good tech authors, two or three
have been excellent and they all been at least OK.

Many are from a tech background and were not, perhaps, best suited to
tech work, so used their skills in tech writing.  But there is some
truth to the view that tech people aren't always the best at writing
good English.
