I assume it's a closed source editor?

ncurses in the current Ubuntu is at ncurses6, but I don't know how far
the ABI has changed between 5 and 6. It *might* be worth trying
installing 6 and creating a softlink from libncurses.so.5 ->
libncurses.so.6
