Pretty sure you cannot wipe the OS and start again.
1) The OS in installed over the air.
2) I don't think anyone has managed to install a different OS, linux
or otherwise to run on it.
As a side, I do know how to plug a sky smart card and DVB card into a
Linux box and have it decode the subscribed channels.
