I use one of those on the right hand side at home. Main reason being a
lack of desk space with this particular machine but even a change in
position compared with work setups help.
I use a Logitech Marble Mouse USB [1] on the left side at work as an extra
input with a conventional right side mouse. I use one of the auxillary
buttons to enable scrolling with the ball so don't miss wheels.
X still sees it as two X/Y wheels so diagonal scrolling is not as smooth as
it could be.
