Hello all,
I decided to install debian squeeze on of my laptops. Not being my
native distro I thought it would be wise to become better aquainted.
Initially, gnash was just being silly and slowing everything down. It
got removed.
Next issue, I was un-tarballing a large archive, despite nice-ing it to
the lowest priority, the machine was quite unresponsive for a few
seconds before effectively handling events.
I have installed IceWM to lighten the overhead a tad but, still it takes
a number of seconds to respond to mouse actions and such whilst doing
the uncompress.
The cpu time is not near full tilt but the system load is.
Any ideas ? I plan to roll a kernel. If you know off hand a setting I
should consider, please, do iterate.
Its an old 2GHz P4 -M laptop with 1GB RAM,
Thanks much,
Isaac.
