I think I gave my last one away unfortunately.
Can you tell us what Linux thinks the sound card is and post an "lspci -v" please?
What is the mobo model?
We may be able to make this into a "how to introduce Linux to your friend by showing them how to use it to fix a Windows problem" type thing :)
