If you’re trying to stay on the cutting-edge of web development
and design, November is a good month to follow Apress’ release of
titles. HTML5 is a huge step forward for web design, and The
Essential Guide to HTML5 by Jeanine Meyer uses traditional games,
such as hangman, craps, and blackjack to introduce new HTML5
concepts, including the canvas, video, and audio elements. If
you’re a Web professional looking to tap the full potential of
modern browsers, read Pro HTML5 Programming by Peter Lubbers who
has been working with, developing, and teaching HTML5
technologies for more than two years. We’re also releasing the
long awaited sequel The Game Maker’s Companion by Jacob Habgood,
which picks up where the best-selling The Game Maker’s Apprentice
left off. Advance your game development journey with some
seriously impressive gaming projects, culminating in the creation
of an original atmospheric platform-adventure, which will take
your GML programming skills to new heights.

Apress User Group Spotlight

Idaho Drupal Users Group

In July 2007, world-class biscuits and gravy helped formed the
Drupal Users Group in Boise, Idaho. Three years and over 60
members later, the group still meets monthly to discuss all
things Drupal while enjoying tasty cuisine! Because there is a
lot of ground to cover with Drupal, the technology driving high-
profile websites such as the White House and BMG records, each
unique meeting covers a different aspect of the platform. The
group is both a way for independent developers and designers to
socialize and share stories, and an incubator for those just
starting with Drupal. Beyond meetings, there are online
discussions at http://groups.drupal.org/boise, as well as a local
IRC chat room (#drupal-idaho). Drop by sometime!

Community for MVC

The Community for MVC (C4MVC) was founded by Eric Hexter and
Javier Lazano in 2009 and is a virtual user group focused on the
Microsoft ASP.NET MVC framework. The group, which meets once a
month, was founded to encourage members to share advanced topics
with other professionals, who are looking to push their
development skills and collaborate with the community using Open
Source and commercial additions to the MVC framework. Besides
focusing on specific technical topics, the group helps promote
good software engineering practices. C4MVC is supported by the
International .NET Association (INETA) as well as the ASP.NET MVC
team. In July 2010, the group held MVCConf, a very successful,
one-day virtual conference with 500+ attendees and 20+ highly
technical sessions from the best in the industry. For more
information about Community for MVC, visit http://www.c4mvc.net/.
