Are you running smartmontools? Might be worth doing so. Hugo has given a
deeper analysis; my gut feel is that the drive is on its way out.

If they can't live without it, I suggest you switch over to the hot-spare
backup (and if they don't have one then not only CAN they live without
this server, but they might well have to). Seriously, for critical
servers, an HA clustered pair (Heartbeat, DRBD, etc) is a sensible and not
that expensive solution.
