This can be said for every single laptop manufacturer out there. If you
want to buy leading edge tech, you will run the risk of having bits and
bobs not working under Linux. If you are moderately cautious, wait for
positive reviews of Linux running on your chosen hardware. At the same
token, if you are ultra cautious, wait for either the manufacturers
themselves (you might wait a loooong time for this...) or 3rd party
companies (like The Linux Emporium or Emperor Linux) to sell such machines
with Linux preloaded, or use their list of supported models as a guideline
for your own shopping trip.

My point is that you will allways be at risk when buying laptops. Like all
manufactures, Acer has had their moments with lemon laptops, but those
that works, does so extremely well. IMHO Acer is more trustworthy than
HP/Compaq when it comes to making Linux-friendly laptops at a good
price-point.
