I had just tried to guage it from maps, and it (indeed, all the railway
stations) looked rather far - but I hadn't actually measured it, and I
thought that I might be mentally exaggerating the magnitude. And, as you
say, that gives no indication of the terrain - and my Ordinance Survey maps
are all way out of date.
