A friend had an automated remote backup service that kept on going
after his macbook was stolen, and this helped the police find who
had it.

If your disk is encrypted though, then I don't see how this will
survive after they have to reinstall it to use it.

I'd probably go for non-insane laptop specs, home insurance,
encrypted laptop disks and decent backups to be honest.
