I got used to the idea of doing things as root right from the start of
using Linux (10 or 12 years ago) and since almost the first thing
Debian does on installation (slight exaggeration I know) is set up a
root password with the user name/password a long way down the list I
still do things the way I am used to.

Until ubuntu came on the scene I hardly knew of the existence of sudo
and cannot see any need for me to use it

I have got a root tab working thanks to Stephen but still can't work out
the 'spell' to get a root mc tab based on the command:

/bin/bash -c "su -"

that he suggested. I really struggle with simple things like this as I
know practically zilch about programming of any sort, I'd probably even
struggle with html these days.
