Thanks Lisi, I find the history of that period in time very interesting. My
Hungarian Grandmother, she passed away in 2001 at the age of 89! having made
a life in Britain with her Romanian immigrant Husband, Lajos, since 1949,
told similar stories.

Her story of how she escaped death in Budapest during the war was a gripping
tale over coffee and cake no matter how many times she told the same story.
But I always got the impression that all sides; Russian, German, British and
Hungarians, hated the war and not their designated enemy.

In 1951 she worked for the author, as a Nanny and Hungarian teacher, Geoffrey
Household in East Dean near Romsey. Some of her stories from war torn
Budapest were incorporated into one of Geoffrey's novels, I've yet to read
them to ascertain which one!
