The post does contain the number to dial, the APN settings and the credentials which should be applicable whichever software you use to connect.

Thanks Paul for that link, it should have helped but doing an upgrade
didn't install the 'Mobile Partner'package. I tried looking for it in
the repositories but could find anything like that in name.
Spent the afternoon at Haynes Motor Museum with both son-in-laws so
didn't have a lot of time for tinkering before the Dorchester based
family had to return home. 
At least it gave no. 1 son-in-law something to think about
