It is a problem. I suppose the University is a bit protective of it's shiny 
new facilities and it does make sense.
Last time the guard wasn't that bad once we had proved not to be a problem and 
was helpful when people were leaving. I agree he was a bit gruff and off 
putting at the start - he wasn't keen to let me in.
Perhaps we may have to migrate the desk or have someone on the front door with 
the guard? I think the welcome desk is an important and very helpful thing to 
do, but we have to balance welcoming everyone with taking responsibility of 
them to our host.
