Foam earpieces usually fit me better than flanged but they need
replacing more often. If you want to listen for more than an hour or
two custom moulds are well worth the dosh if they can be fitted.

I came across several reviews comparing different kinds of earbuds
(isolating, like the CX400), and talked to multi-brand vendors for
comparisons. There are some vendors on eB*y where the pricing is less
"British", one of them recommended Westone UM-1 as less thin than my
Etymotic ER-6. But audio quality is one of those "which is the best
language" questions.

Users seem to find isolating earbuds addictive and see them as worth the
cost (the ER-6 cost about the same as my mobile/MP3), and say they're
more reliable than noise cancelling. I also noticed that reports of
dissatisfaction with high street brands (Sony, Apple, Koss, Sennheiser
etc.) are much more common than with lesser known brands - draw your own
conclusions!
