I have set up and got running the Red5 flash media server
http://www.red5flashserver.com/
It seems to work just fine for streaming videos etc. You may have to
re-encode your .avi files to .flv or something before you stream them.
I installed it because I wanted to build a little flash application with
a record button that grabs the microphone and streams audio up to the
server and records it so that I could have a simple way for users to
contribute stories to http://www.astoryforbedtime.com The server part
works great, I just got a bit stuck writing the button.
If anyone knows a bit about flash and wants to help write such a tool
then give me a shout.
