I just wish someone had shown me linux when I was 9!!! Unfortunately, my
fun and interesting computing days stopped for a while after we
'upgraded' from our zx spectrum to a windows 95 PC. Eventually I
discovered red hat 3!

I think if your John is anything like this John was when he was 9 (that
was a while ago now...), he'll love Linux!! Go for it!
