[Hampshire] Laptop cron jobs

Hi,

Just wondering how others deal with cron jobs on their laptops. E.g. the
default jobs that most distros seem to drop into some kind of daily or
weekly cron job to update things such as the slocate db.

Inevitably the laptop is off when the scripts are scheduled to run, so
do you run them manually? Set them to run in the background at boot
time? Any other ideas?
