I have a sound blaster extigy (external USB sound card) which does
indeed "Just Work™". Plugged it into my desktop (running Ubuntu Feisty
7.04) and just had to tell GNOME that it was now my default audio device
(System --> Preferences --> Sound if you're interested) and that was
that.
I have now disabled the manky onboard sound card in the BIOS so I only
have this USB sound card to use.
Cheers,
Al.
