What groups are you in?
alan@mother:~$ groups
alan adm dialout cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev scanner netdev
lpadmin powerdev admin
If you're not in admin then that is probably why you're missing sudo
access.
If that is the case then you can reboot into recovery mode and add
yourself back into it again at the root prompt.
