My 250Gig external is also brick powered and is usually plugged into
a windog laptop or desktop - which periodically screws up the disk.
Plugging into my mandrake desktop corrects the problem and ths disk
is then AOK.
Perhaps running a live distro and then plugging the drive in will
get you somewhere?
I would offer to stick the drive into my windows laptop but
would be worried what it would do to the machine - windows is
so easy to infect that way :-(
Jacqui
also I have had problems with some of the USB cards under both linux and
windows - they say USB2 but have severe problems with heavy devices such
as disk drives and scanners - may just be a defective card on my side
but trying another USB card may be a workaround.
