I was browsing through some old emails and found this link
http://solumslekt.org/forays/exodus.php
which I re-visited. It is the third part of a longish discussion
about what a genealogy app should do but the interesting thing is
that the author has now released a 'usable' version of his
PostgreSQL based package.
I quote from the readme:
> This is Exodus version 0.1.0. Exodus is a genealogy database
> application using PostgreSQL for data storage and internal
> business logic, and mainly PHP scripts for the interface.

It comes as a tarball of the php scripts and includes information on
how to get it working (in the README.txt)
Have fun
P.S. I have just installed apache2, postgresql-8.1 and php-5 to have a
play myself. Need to learn how to use apache and postgres for
starters :(
