Subject: [Hampshire] VirtualBox revisited
Alan gave a good intro to this virtualisation package at the last
meeting and I have successfully installed it onto a Sidux based
system.

Alan mentioned that the mouse is captured by the guest OS and needs
you to press the Right Control key to release the mouse back to the
host OS. There is however an extension available for some guest OS
that give the mouse freedom to move between host & guest OS
seamlessly. Click on Devices/Mount CD/DVD-ROM/CD/DVD-Rom
Image/VboxGuestAdditions.iso to install them

My first attempt at VirtualBox was by compiling the source code but
this caused me a few problems with the need to tell the host OS
where things are with commands like LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./VBoxSVC&.

Then I discovered an installation script at

http://www.virtualbox.org/download/1.3.8/VirtualBox_1.3.8_Linux_x86.run

which I downloaded and put into the directory where I'd un-tarred the
source code and ran the script. It then installed the VB
binaries into /opt/inotek/VisualBox and set up various files
in /etc/vbox/, /etc/group/ and /etc/init.d/ which resolve the
'location of files problem'

It looks like getting the source code may not in fact be needed as
the bulk of the VirtualBox_1.3.8_Linux_x86.run file consists of
stuff like

]7ãŽ"p-¢?¤»“?&v$„&d7$!/?CH*ÝÕé2ÝUmUu:Ç98¾Î8ºŽ³êœ????EE?ä™í?\]qw†???1

which I am assuming is the compiled code for the binaries (and maybe
the *Additions.iso)
