Here's an extract from my record of trying something similar (whole
file is at www.salisburys.net/linuxlog.html). Note this was in 2004
so some things may have changed!

3) tell kdm to allow remote logins, changing the line
in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc to enable xdmcp (the remote login protocol)
[Xdmcp]Enable=true

4) tell kdm which hosts are allowed to login, adding the allowable
host names (one per line) to the end of /etc/kde3/kdm/Xaccess

5) restart kdm to activate it all and await logins
