There were some old cards that were supported by older versions of
XFree86 v3 that aren't supported in newer releases of XFree86 v4 or
X.org. Support was dropped due to a lack of maintainer or a perception
that there were not significant numbers of cards left in use. XFree86 v3
was in Woody, but not Sarge and has never been near Ubuntu.
