I agree about laptop MicIn and their lack of quality.
The devices I use do not have a builtin microphone. The ONLY work with
external mic's. I use a Sony Mic

This discussion take me back to the days as a student where I helped my
flatmates make 8mm film and I was the sound guy with a portable
reel-to-reel UHER tape recorder.
