Well, DMA is enabled. Having DMA off is the usual cause of choppy DVD
playback.

Just as with a hard disk, this sort of error implies a dodgy disk. I'd
suggest cleaning the disk with any cleaning kit you might have. (A damp
tissue will do if you don't have a cleaning kit.) This should remove any
surface dust or sticky fingerprints. Then check the disk for major
scratches or abrasions to the surface. If there are large scratches etc.
then it might be time to buy a new disk.
